2025 BCSPC "Out of the Darkness" Suicide Prevention & Awareness Walk Sept. 14
Please fill out the information below to register for the 3rd annual "Out of the Darkness": Suicide Prevention & Awareness Walk! This event will be hosted by the Benton County Suicide Prevention Coalition on Sunday, September 14th, 2025 from 5:00pm - 8:00pm at the Benton Community MS/HS track, located at 600 1st St, Van Horne, IA 52346.Some important information:*Starting at 5:00pm, the complex will be open with tables of information, speakers, games, activities centered around grief suitable for multiple ages, and treats available for purchase.

Two Webinars Will Examine Impact of Excessive Farm Heat on People and Produce
Iowa State University Extension and Outreach’s Farm, Food and Enterprise Development team is holding two webinars in August that will explore the role of intense heat on farmers and growers, as well as their crops.“Heat exposure is an increasing problem for agricultural workers, and can negatively impact their health and mental state,” said Alex Van Alstyne, food business extension specialist with Iowa State. Barn Dance Benefit Saturday, July 26th
We're opening our BARN—and our HEARTS—to help one of our own. A Barn Dance Benefit will be held for Mitch Kacena on Saturday, July 26th. Doors will be open at 6:00 p.m.On June 1st, our son, Mitch Kacena was involved in a terrible accident while helping a friend take down an old radio tower. The tower unexpectedly collapsed with Mitch harnessed to the top, causing him to fall 56 feet!Miraculously, he survived by landing on his feet and rolling to lessen the impact.
